In the late summer of 2019, the life of 18-year-old Torin Dworchak was tragically cut short in a devastating series of events that began with a deceptive invitation from a friend. On September 4, 2019, Tyrese Randolph, an acquaintance of Dworchak, lured the young man from his home in Middletown to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, under the false pretense of simply hanging out.
This friendly arrangement, however, was a cover for a robbery plot hatched by Randolph and his accomplice, Nathaniel Acevedo.
When Dworchak arrived at the arranged meeting spot on Thomas Street, he was confronted by Acevedo, who brandished a handgun. The two men proceeded to rob Dworchak of his possessions and then forced him into the trunk of his own vehicle. They drove to an undisclosed location where Acevedo opened the trunk and fatally shot Torin Dworchak twice in the head and face. The following day, on September 5, Randolph and Acevedo returned to the vehicle, drove it to Reservoir Park near the National Civil War Museum, and left Dworchak's body in a parking lot near a guardrail before abandoning the car elsewhere.
The investigation into Dworchak's death quickly gained momentum when police were alerted to the use of his debit card at several stores in Dauphin County. Surveillance footage from these locations led authorities to identify Randolph and Acevedo. On September 12, 2019, police apprehended Tyrese Randolph. During questioning, Randolph detailed the plan to rob Dworchak and implicated Acevedo as the gunman. Nathaniel Acevedo had fled to Nashville, Tennessee, but was captured by U.S. Marshals on September 16, 2019.
Both men faced charges including murder, robbery, and conspiracy. In June, a jury found Tyrese Randolph guilty of second-degree murder, robbery, and conspiracy, and he faced a mandatory life sentence. The night before his trial was set to begin, Nathaniel Acevedo pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, robbery, and criminal conspiracy. He received a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole for his role in the brutal killing of Torin Dworchak.
