In the fall of 2019, the life of Vaughn Aaron Cromartie, a 37-year-old African American man from Philadelphia, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Monday, October 21st, Philadelphia Police officers were called to the 3300 block of North Philip Street where they discovered Cromartie lying in the street, unresponsive. He had been shot twice.
Emergency services transported him to Temple University Hospital for treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, Vaughn Cromartie succumbed to his injuries the following day, on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. At the time of his death, he was a resident of the 2300 block of North 17th Street.
Born in Philadelphia on February 16, 1982, Cromartie was a father and fiancé who enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly his daughter with whom he shared a close bond. He was a major sports fan, with a special love for football and basketball. He had earned a diploma in Building Maintenance, HVAC, and Electrician from Orleans Technical College and worked as a landscaper and in building maintenance for many years.
The investigation into Vaughn Cromartie's homicide remains ongoing. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with his shooting, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to appeal to the public for any information that may lead to a breakthrough in this unsolved case.
