George A. Brosey, a 54-year-old White/Caucasian male, was killed late on Monday, June 15, 2020, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, after going to the Crawford Village housing complex, where the night turned suddenly violent. Reports placed the shooting outside building 47, in the 47 block of Crawford Village, a little after 11:20 p.m. or shortly before 11:30 p.m. Brosey was from West Mifflin and was formerly of McKeesport, and his obituary described him as a father, grandfather, brother, and a man remembered for his outgoing personality.
Investigators said surveillance video captured Brosey walking up the stoop of an acquaintance’s apartment when a man came toward him from the area between buildings 47 and 48 and opened fire. The attack did not stop with that first shooter. Police said two other males, positioned about 200 feet away on Pirl Street, also fired in Brosey’s direction, turning the scene into what authorities described as an ambush. Brosey was struck multiple times and died at the scene before he could be saved.
Allegheny County police treated the case as a targeted shooting, but early reports said investigators had not determined why Brosey had been singled out. The presence of surveillance footage gave detectives leads, but the public reports did not identify the three shooters by name. Neighbors were held back as investigators secured the area with crime-scene tape and collected evidence from around the apartment buildings and nearby street.
No arrests were announced in the immediate aftermath. Several days later, local reporting still described the case as unsolved, saying no one had been arrested in Brosey’s killing.
