On the evening of July 24, 2020, a 19-year-old Black male named Tejan Jenkins was shot and killed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred around 9:57 p.m. on the 800 block of North 39th Street. When Philadelphia Police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Jenkins unresponsive in the street with a gunshot wound. He was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
A second individual, a 21-year-old male, was also shot during the incident, sustaining a gunshot wound to his leg, but he survived.
Tejan, who resided on Folsom Street, was a recent graduate of the Junior Barber Academy and had aspirations of one day owning his own barbershop. Described by his mother as a 'kid at heart' who was playful and caring with his younger cousins, he was also a new father to an infant daughter. He was looking forward to an upcoming family trip to Orlando, Florida, a place he loved for its warm weather and theme park rides.
Despite ongoing investigations by the Philadelphia Police Department, no arrests have been made in connection with Tejan Jenkins' murder, and the case remains unsolved. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible. A reward of up to $20,000 has been offered for information that helps solve the case. His family continues to grieve, with his mother expressing the profound and lasting pain of his loss.
