In the summer of 2020, a verbal confrontation in the parking lot of a Chester, Pennsylvania hotel tragically escalated, ending the life of 36-year-old Charles F. Bryant. On a Tuesday in late July, police were called to the Candlewood Suites on Welsh Street where they discovered Bryant inside the lobby, having succumbed to a gunshot wound to the chest. Investigations revealed that the shooting had occurred just outside the hotel's entrance.
Following the incident, Bryant stumbled into the lobby where he was later found. Paramedics from Crozer-Chester Medical Center pronounced him dead at the scene.
Witnesses provided investigators with a description of the events leading up to the fatal shooting. They described a heated argument between Bryant, who was a Black male, and another man in the hotel parking lot. The suspect was described as a Black male, approximately 40 years old, with a medium build, a long goatee, and balding. He was reportedly the driver of a newer model black Dodge pickup truck with tinted windows and a bed cover. Accounts from the scene indicated that a female passenger in the truck, described as being around 40 years old with a thick build and braided hair, attempted to intervene in the dispute before the shooting took place. After the shots were fired, the suspect and his female companion fled the scene in the pickup truck. Authorities also released images of another woman who was inside the hotel lobby at the time, identifying her as a person of interest who may have witnessed the incident.
The investigation into Charles Bryant's death continued for several months. Law enforcement officials were able to identify a suspect in the homicide. In late January of the following year, authorities located and arrested 42-year-old Nasir Frisby in Conway, South Carolina. A warrant for his arrest had been issued on homicide charges related to the death of Charles Bryant. Following his capture, Frisby was held at a detention center in South Carolina, awaiting extradition to face legal proceedings for his alleged role in the fatal shooting.
