In the early morning hours of September 18, 2020, the life of Maurice Antowne Dillon, a 34-year-old Black / African American man, was tragically cut short in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Police were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of South Franklin Street around 2:20 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered an unresponsive male inside the home who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
A homicide investigation was immediately launched into the death of the man, who was later identified as Maurice Dillon. It was determined that he had been shot multiple times in the stomach and chest. In the initial stages of the investigation, law enforcement officials processed the scene for evidence and interviewed neighbors, some of whom reported hearing the gunshots. Despite the active investigation, police assured the public that they did not believe there was any ongoing danger to the community.
Maurice Dillon, a Scranton native, was a father of four children. He had attended Scranton High School and Lackawanna College. He was known to enjoy creating music and spending time with his family and friends. At the time of his death, he was employed as a traffic controller.
