In the late hours of November 20, 2010, the life of 31-year-old Devell Beard was tragically cut short inside his home on Bradford Street, located on Detroit's east side. Neighbors reported seeing two men enter the residence between 10:30 and 11:50 p.m. Shortly after, the sound of gunshots pierced the night. A concerned neighbor who went to check on Beard received no response and was advised by a 911 operator to force entry into the home.
Once inside, the neighbor made a grim discovery: Devell Beard was found lying on the floor, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Devell Beard was a man with a promising future, making his sudden death all the more devastating. A graduate of Detroit's Central High School, he had earned a full basketball scholarship to Alabama State University. At the time of his murder, he was a father to three children, engaged to be married, and a successful business owner. His death left a significant void in the lives of his family and friends, who continue to seek answers and justice.
Despite the passage of time, the case of Devell Beard's murder remains unsolved. Law enforcement officials have not publicly identified any suspects, and no arrests have been made in connection to the shooting. The investigation is now considered a cold case. In an effort to generate new leads, Crime Stoppers of Michigan has offered a cash reward for any information that leads to an arrest. The community and Beard's family hold out hope that one day, those responsible for his death will be brought to justice.
