In the cold of a January night in Pittsburgh, the life of 22-year-old Martell Good, a Black/African American male, was cut short by gunfire. On the evening of January 15, 2021, in the Crafton Heights neighborhood, Good was found outside a residence on Stratmore Street with a gunshot wound to his torso. First responders and an off-duty Pittsburgh Police detective who happened to be nearby rendered aid before he was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved fatal.
The events leading to Good's death were intertwined with a two-vehicle crash that occurred a short distance away at the intersection of Middletown Road and Berry Street. In one of the vehicles involved in the collision, another man was discovered, also suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition. The driver of the other vehicle was the off-duty detective who had stopped to provide assistance.
As investigators began to piece together the chaotic scene, they determined that the shooting and the crash were connected. Witnesses at the scene of the accident reported seeing two males fleeing from the vehicle where the second gunshot victim was found. A female who was driving that same car was taken in by police for questioning. Despite these initial leads and an ongoing investigation by the Major Crimes unit, no arrests have been made in connection with Martell Good's death. The case remains open as authorities continue to seek information from the public to identify the individuals responsible for the shooting.
