Tamon Maurice Hatchin, a 24-year-old male of African American ethnicity, tragically lost his life on August 8, 2018, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Hatchin was fatally shot by 32-year-old Earl Jackson at the corner of Brownsville Road and Marland Street in the Knoxville neighborhood. According to witnesses, Hatchin and Jackson got into an argument, which escalated when Jackson pulled out a semi-automatic pistol and shot Hatchin three times.
The witness promptly called 911, and Jackson fled the scene.
Police quickly identified Jackson as the suspect and located his car nearby. Jackson's sister leased the home where he was hiding, and after a prolonged standoff with SWAT officers, Jackson was found hiding in a garbage can in the basement of the home. He surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody. Jackson, who had a prior conviction for aggravated assault in 2010, now faced charges of criminal homicide and additional gun-related charges.

The witness who identified Jackson from a photo array was certain of his guilt, stating they were "110 percent sure" that Jackson was the shooter.
