On a tragic evening in Philadelphia, 28-year-old Dwan Jenkins-Stanton, a Black male, lost his life in a sudden act of violence. The incident occurred on Monday, June 7, 2021, inside a grocery store located on the 1700 block of West Butler Street. At approximately 5:33 p.m., the normal course of the day was shattered by gunfire, leaving two individuals shot.
Philadelphia Police officers who responded to the scene discovered Jenkins-Stanton inside the store. Medical personnel were quickly summoned, but unfortunately, his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced deceased at the location. A resident of North Gratz Street, his life was cut short in a place he was likely just running an errand.
In the same incident, a 53-year-old woman also fell victim to the gunfire. She sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was rushed to Temple University Hospital by police in critical condition. The shooting not only ended one life but also left another fighting for survival, deeply affecting more than one family and the surrounding community.
As of now, the case of Dwan Jenkins-Stanton's death remains an unsolved homicide. Detectives from the Philadelphia Police Department are continuing their investigation into this tragic event. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
