In the summer of 2021, a burst of gunfire outside a housing complex in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, tragically cut short the life of 30-year-old Monte Warren. On the evening of July 12th, a violent confrontation erupted at the Harmony Dwellings, resulting in a chaotic scene with more than 30 shots fired. When the turmoil subsided, Monte Warren and another man, 31-year-old Dwayne Wells, were found dead at the scene. Three other individuals were also wounded in the shootout.
The investigation into the deadly incident led authorities to identify Monte Warren's own brother, Decarlos Kavaun Warren, as a central figure in the events of that night. An arrest warrant was issued for the 20-year-old, who had traveled from Michigan. While Decarlos was charged with the homicide of Dwayne Wells and the aggravated assault of the three other injured men, he was not charged in connection with his brother's death. Reports from the investigation described Monte Warren's death as occurring during a subsequent gunfight and was characterized by police as a result of self-defense, though the individual who fired the fatal shot was not publicly named.
After a lengthy search, Decarlos Warren was apprehended in Michigan in March of 2023 and was subsequently extradited to Beaver County to face a series of serious charges, including criminal homicide and multiple counts of attempted homicide and aggravated assault. His trial concluded with a split verdict from the jury. While he was acquitted of the murder charge in the death of Dwayne Wells, he was found guilty of aggravated assault. For his role in the violent outburst that claimed two lives, including that of his brother, Decarlos Warren was sentenced to a term of 5 to 10 years in prison.
