In the summer of 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the evening calm outside the Harmony Dwellings housing complex in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, leaving a young father dead and a community in shock. The life of 31-year-old Dwayne 'Wild Wayne' Wells was cut short on a Monday night in a hail of over 30 bullets. Another man, 30-year-old Monte Warren of Michigan, was also killed in the exchange of fire, and three other individuals were wounded, requiring hospitalization for their injuries.

Known to his friends and family as 'Wild Wayne' or 'Weezy,' Dwayne Wells was remembered as a man with a heart of gold who was dedicated to his four children. His sister described him as a great person who loved those around him and had recently turned his life over to God. He was also a musician who had just released a song titled 'A Letter to God.' A candlelight vigil was held to honor his memory, where friends and family gathered to release balloons and play music in his honor.

The investigation into the deadly shooting led authorities to identify 20-year-old Decarlos Kavaun Warren, also from Michigan, as the primary suspect. An arrest warrant was issued, charging him with the homicide of Dwayne Wells and aggravated assault for the wounding of three other men. Surveillance footage from the Beaver County Housing Authority played a crucial role in identifying Warren, showing him firing a handgun. The footage also captured one of the victims returning fire.

Following the shooting, Decarlos Warren and Monte Warren were seen leaving the scene in a black Jeep. While Monte Warren was later found deceased at a local hospital, Decarlos Warren remained at large. Federal authorities were called in to assist in the search for him. Nearly two years later, in March 2023, Decarlos Kavaun Warren was taken into custody. He waived extradition from Michigan and was incarcerated in the Beaver County Jail. He faced a litany of charges, including criminal homicide, multiple counts of attempted criminal homicide, and aggravated assault. It was later revealed that Monte Warren, the other deceased man, was Decarlos Warren's brother and that his death was determined to have been in self-defense.
