In the winter of 2021, a 40-year-old mother of six, Tyra Gould, was fatally shot in Philadelphia, leaving her family and community searching for answers. On Wednesday, December 1st, of that year, what began as a report of an assault in the vicinity of 24th and Diamond Streets in North Philadelphia soon escalated into a homicide investigation. Around 1 p.m., while officers were looking into the assault, Gould was rushed to Temple University Hospital in a private vehicle, having been shot eight
times.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remained unclear in the immediate aftermath. While initial reports suggested the shooting occurred at the scene of the assault, responding officers found no evidence of a shooting at that location. A friend of Gould's voiced a belief that she was actually shot inside a car at a different location, in the company of a cousin and a male friend.
