In the early hours of a cold Saturday morning, the life of a young Philadelphia man was tragically cut short. On January 8, 2022, 22-year-old Eric Smith, a Black male, was found lying in the street on the 200 block of South Cecil Street. The call came in to Philadelphia Police officers at 12:52 a.m., a time when the city is typically cloaked in a quiet darkness. Upon their arrival, the grim discovery was made; Smith had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
