In the evening hours of March 2, 2022, the life of 34-year-old Durell Lee Lipford, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Pittsburgh's Homewood neighborhood. The series of events that led to his death began to unfold shortly after 6:30 p.m., when a ShotSpotter alert notified police of as many as 27 gunshots on Inwood Street. In addition to the automated alert, 911 calls from concerned citizens also reported the gunfire.
Upon arriving at the scene, Pittsburgh Police
officers discovered Lipford in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics were dispatched to the location, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed his identity.
Despite the significant number of rounds fired and the response from law enforcement, the investigation into Durell Lee Lipford's murder has been met with challenges. Investigators canvassed the neighborhood and collected evidence, but as of now, no suspects have been publicly identified or taken into custody. The Pittsburgh Police have not released any descriptions of potential suspects.
