On a cold January evening in Pittsburgh, a burst of gunfire shattered the night in the Northview Heights neighborhood, leaving a family without a loved one and a community searching for answers. The victim was Blake Green, a 41-year-old Black/African American man from the nearby borough of McKees Rocks. The fatal encounter unfolded on the 1400 block of Chicago Street on Saturday, January 9, 2021.
Responding to a call for shots fired at approximately 10:30 p.m., Pittsburgh Police officers
discovered Green with two gunshot wounds to his back. He was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention, but his injuries proved to be too severe. Green was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
In the immediate aftermath and in the years that have followed, the investigation into Blake Green's death has remained active, though frustratingly unresolved for his grieving family. Authorities have revealed that security footage from the area captured several individuals leaving the home where the shooting occurred. Despite this, police have not publicly identified any suspects in the case, and no arrests have been announced.
More than a year after the shooting, in March of 2022, investigators and Green's family renewed their plea to the public for assistance. They believe there are multiple witnesses who hold key information that could lead to a breakthrough in the case. The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police has urged anyone with knowledge of the events that transpired that night to come forward and speak with homicide detectives. To date, the case remains an open and ongoing investigation, with justice for Blake Green yet to be secured.
