On March 25, 2022, 56-year-old Jimmy Hunt of Havertown, Pennsylvania, was fatally shot in the head while sitting in his minivan at a red light on Lansdowne Avenue and Winding Way in Drexel Hill, Upper Darby. Hunt, a married father of four, was pronounced dead at Lankenau Medical Center around 10:30 a.m. The Montgomery County Medical Examiner determined the manner of death to be homicide, caused by a gunshot wound to the head.
The suspect in the case, 28-year-old Lloyd Amarsingh of Darby,
turned himself in to police the following day. Amarsingh claimed that the shooting was an accident, stating that his gun misfired while he was unloading it in his car. According to Amarsingh, he was celebrating receiving an unemployment payment and had his seat reclined while handling the firearm. He told police that the gun discharged twice, with one of the bullets hitting Hunt. Surveillance video showed Hunt's minivan stopped at a red light next to Amarsingh's white Audi, which sped away after the shooting.
Amarsingh was charged with third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and possessing an instrument of crime. Police obtained a warrant to search Amarsingh's home, where they recovered the gun he claimed was fired from inside his car. The investigation revealed that there might have been some sort of road rage incident between the two men before the shooting.
Friends and family of Hunt remembered him as a passionate individual involved in youth sports and deeply loved by the community. They expressed their grief and disbelief over the tragic incident, emphasizing that Hunt's death has left a significant void in their lives.
The case continues to be investigated, with authorities working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting and whether Amarsingh's account holds true.
