In the late hours of an April evening in 2022, a tragic event unfolded in York, Pennsylvania, that would cut short the life of 30-year-old Miguel M. Roman. On April 13th, at approximately 11:17 p.m., in the 500 block of West Market Street, a violent encounter took place that would also claim the life of 27-year-old Jordan Simpson. While Simpson was found deceased at the scene, Roman was rushed to UPMC Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries in the early morning of the following
day.
The investigation into the double homicide revealed a sinister plot that had been set in motion under the guise of a drug transaction. Investigators discovered that Roman had made arrangements to purchase marijuana from a man named James Brown Jr. However, Brown's intentions were not to complete a simple sale but to execute a robbery. In a coordinated ambush, Brown, along with Kyree Dickson and Jordan Simpson, confronted Roman. The situation quickly escalated into a shootout, resulting in the fatal injuries of both Roman and Simpson, while Brown and Dickson sustained injuries.
The ensuing police investigation led to the apprehension of James Brown Jr. and Kyree Dickson. Both men were subsequently charged with second-degree murder, robbery, and conspiracy to commit both crimes. Their case proceeded to trial, and in November 2024, a jury found both Brown and Dickson guilty of the charges brought against them. The conviction carried a heavy sentence, as both men now face life in prison without the possibility of parole for their roles in the deadly robbery and shooting that claimed the lives of two young men.
