On June 24, 2022, 18-year-old Maleek Thomas was fatally shot in Pittsburgh's Hill District. Thomas, an African American male, was killed just six days after his high school graduation from Pittsburgh Milliones. He was shot in the side while trying to stop someone from throwing rocks at windows. Thomas was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
