On October 7, 2022, Bartholomew “Bart” Masciulli, a 51-year-old male, was fatally shot in the Cargo City area of the Philadelphia International Airport. A longtime employee of FedEx, Masciulli worked as a driving instructor, a role that would tragically lead to his death. That afternoon, as he was preparing to leave his workplace, he was approached by a coworker, Keith Lamont Blount.
Blount, then 59 years old, had recently been evaluated by Masciulli to become a driver for the
company. Following an assessment on August 29 and September 2, 2022, Masciulli did not approve Blount for the position. Surveillance footage from the day of the shooting showed Blount's vehicle in the vicinity for about two hours before the incident, suggesting he was waiting for Masciulli. Witnesses reported seeing a man, later identified as Blount, speaking with the driver of a Jeep. The man then stepped back, pulled out a firearm, and fired five rounds into the vehicle before fleeing in a Honda Accord. Tinicum Township police officers discovered Masciulli inside his Jeep Patriot with gunshot wounds to his face; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hours after the shooting, authorities located Blount at his Philadelphia home. When police arrived, Blount opened fire on two officers in a marked patrol car and then on four more who responded to the scene. The officers returned fire, grazing Blount in the head, and he was taken into custody. Investigators recovered a 9mm Ruger from Blount's vehicle, and ballistics testing confirmed it was the weapon used in Masciulli's murder.
Keith Lamont Blount was charged with criminal homicide, murder of the first and third degree, and related firearms charges in connection with Masciulli's death. He also faced multiple counts of assault on a law enforcement officer for the subsequent shootout. In December 2024, at the age of 61, Blount pleaded guilty to murder, assault on police, and firearm charges. He was sentenced to serve 35 to 80 years in prison for his crimes.
