On October 26, 2022, Clayton Tierney, a 17-year-old male from Pittsburgh, PA, tragically died after being shot in the head in Pittsburgh’s Beechview neighborhood. Tierney was found around 4:20 p.m. on the 1700 block of Broadway Avenue, near the T light-rail transit tracks. He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in critical condition but later pronounced dead at 11:37 p.m.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed his identity the following morning.
The incident is under investigation by the Office of the Allegheny County Medical Examiner. Pittsburgh police have interviewed witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage from the night of the shooting. The footage shows a verbal argument followed by a single muffled gunshot from inside the house, and an unknown man in a black hoodie with white text fleeing the scene. The footage also shows the man in the black hoodie raising his arm and firing three gunshots in the direction of the fleeing person before returning to the house.
On December 29, 2022, Pittsburgh police arrested Antwuan Berry, 26, in connection with the shooting. Berry, who is Tierney’s brother, was found at the scene and was visibly upset, later punching the house multiple times. He was taken to the hospital and then to police headquarters for questioning. Berry was charged with criminal attempt homicide, aggravated assault, persons not to possess a firearm, and firearms not to be carried without a license. He is currently in the Allegheny County Jail.
The investigation continues as authorities work to gather more evidence and determine the full circumstances surrounding Clayton Tierney’s death.
