In the early morning hours of October 26, 2022, the life of 57-year-old Alberto Herrera was tragically cut short in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. Herrera was on the 3100 block of Weymouth Street when he was shot in the head and jaw. The shooting occurred at approximately 5:27 a.m. Emergency services transported him to Temple University Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead at 5:40 a.m.

Detectives Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding Herrera's death. At this time, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
The area where Alberto Herrera was killed has been known for significant criminal activity. In a major law enforcement action in October 2025, federal authorities announced a 41-count indictment against 33 alleged members of the 'Weymouth Street Drug Trafficking Organization.' This organization is accused of operating an open-air drug market on the same block where Herrera was shot. The indictment alleges that the group engaged in violence, including shootings and murder, to maintain control of their territory. Among those indicted was a man named Chayanne Herrera. However, law enforcement officials have not publicly stated whether there is any connection between the activities of this drug trafficking organization, or any of the individuals indicted, and the murder of Alberto Herrera.
