Patrolman Jerome Hostetter, aged 43, of the Marion City Police Department in Ohio, tragically died on August 18, 1910. Hostetter was shot and killed while attempting to arrest an armed robbery suspect. Alongside another officer, Hostetter was searching the Erie railroad yard for two suspects linked to a robbery. As Hostetter ordered one suspect out of a railroad car, the second suspect opened fire, mortally wounding him. Hostetter succumbed to his injuries the following day.
