On December 10, 2021, Fentahun G. Mengistu, a 38-year-old Black man from Columbus, OH, was tragically killed in a shooting incident. The incident occurred in the 300 block of East 12th Avenue, where Columbus Police were dispatched to a report of a shooting at around 10:40 PM. Upon arrival, officers observed a blood trail but were unable to locate a victim. Shortly after, they received information that a shooting victim had arrived at OSU Hospital in critical condition.
Despite receiving emergency lifesaving medical treatment, Mengistu succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 11:19 PM.
Investigators determined that Mengistu was shot at from a motor vehicle that fled the area. The case remains unsolved, and the Columbus Police Department continues to seek information from the public to help identify and apprehend the suspects involved.
