Henry Howell, a 58-year-old African American man, was tragically shot and killed on December 20, 1997, in Columbus, Ohio. Howell was visiting his girlfriend, Nicole Collins, at the Kenmore Square apartment complex when he was fatally shot in the parking lot. He had cashed his $400 social security disability check earlier that day and was carrying a wad of bills when he was attacked. Howell was disabled and walked with a limp, making him an easy target for the assailant.
