Linda Carol Thompson Myers, a 55-year-old woman, was tragically killed on March 27, 2003, in Darke County, Ohio. She and her husband, Jack Myers, were shot to death while sleeping in their farmhouse. The couple's great-grandson, Dameon Huffman, discovered their bodies the next morning and alerted authorities by running to a nearby daycare. The investigation revealed that nothing of value was missing from the house, ruling out robbery as a motive.
The police initially focused on Jack's
older son, Travis, due to their strained relationship, but he had a solid alibi. Eventually, a witness came forward with information that led authorities to Jack's younger son, Gregg Myers. Gregg, who was 25 years old at the time, had financial troubles and was about to be evicted from his house. Investigators learned that Gregg had asked the witness where he could procure a shotgun to shoot his father and stepmother. Gregg's fingerprints were found on latex gloves discarded in the Stillwater River, along with other incriminating evidence.
Gregg Myers was arrested and went to trial in April 2004. He was found guilty on two counts of aggravated murder and received two life sentences without the possibility of parole. Additionally, he was sentenced to five years for aggravated burglary, to be served concurrently. Gregg Myers remains incarcerated at the Marion Correctional Institution in Ohio.
