Titus Jamaal Arnold, a 23-year-old African American male from Springfield, Ohio, tragically lost his life on April 12, 2005. Arnold was employed by Vision for Youth and was a dedicated member of Greater Grace Temple, where he served on the Usher Board Committee and was a minister. He was also a graduate of Springfield South High School and a senior at Urbana University, where he played football and coached the Hayward Football Program.
Arnold's death was the result of a violent crime
spree carried out by two individuals: 16-year-old Joshua Wade and 30-year-old Jason Dean. The spree began with a robbery at the Selma Road mini-mart and included drive-by shootings of a pregnant woman and a one-year-old girl. On the night of Arnold's murder, Wade fired the fatal shot that killed him, leaving behind three young children, including a nine-day-old daughter.
Following the crime spree, both Wade and Dean were arrested and charged with multiple counts of aggravated murder, attempted murder, and other crimes. Wade was convicted and sentenced to life in prison, while Dean received the death penalty. Dean's convictions and death sentence were upheld by the Ohio Supreme Court in 2015.
Arnold's mother, Vickie Arnold, has since become an advocate for victims of violent crime, working to support others who have experienced similar losses. Despite the tragedy, she has encouraged her family to "take the high road" and promote humanity and peace.
