Detective Keith Dressel, aged 35, was a dedicated officer with the Toledo Police Department's Vice/Narcotics Section Special Enforcement Division. On the night of February 21, 2007, Detective Dressel and another detective were investigating a drug deal on Ontario Street, near Bush Street. As they exited their vehicle and identified themselves, one of the suspects fled on foot.
Detective Dressel pursued the suspect, and during the chase, the suspect opened fire, striking Dressel once in the chest. Despite being mortally wounded, Dressel managed to return fire but did not hit the shooter.
The suspect, a 15-year-old juvenile named Robert Jobe, was later taken into custody after agreeing to turn himself in to his probation officer. Jobe was convicted of murder on November 30, 2007, and sentenced to 18 years to life in prison. He was denied parole in 2025, and his next parole date is scheduled for October 2032.
Detective Dressel, who had served with the Toledo Police Department for 14 years, left behind a wife, two children, and a grieving family. His dedication and sacrifice were honored by the Toledo Police Department and the community, who remembered him as a hero who died protecting Toledo.
