On January 16, 2022, 27-year-old Gerald Dennis Mayes II, a male of African American ethnicity, was tragically shot and killed while sitting in his car near Oak Hill apartments in Springfield Township, Toledo, OH. The incident occurred around 8 p.m., and a passerby noticed bullet holes in the vehicle before law enforcement arrived. Mayes was taken to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
