On July 31, 2011, Charles Burnett, aged 56, was found dead in his Detroit residence located at 12026 Rutland Street. He was killed during a violent incident that occurred in the midst of Detroit’s struggle with rising homicide rates during this period. The lack of immediate leads in Burnett’s case has unfortunately meant that it became one of the many unsolved homicides in Detroit—a city that has faced a crisis of violent crime and limited law enforcement resources.
