Lennell L. Walton, a 35-year-old male, tragically lost his life on July 6, 2014, in Columbus, OH. Walton was fatally shot inside Club Vission on Eastland Square Drive around 2 a.m. He was taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The suspect in Walton's death, Richard D. Bouyer Jr., a 29-year-old man from Silver Creek Drive, was arrested at the scene.
Bouyer, who had a history with Walton, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter with a gun and felonious assault. The shooting appeared to be premeditated, as Bouyer brought a gun to the club and shot Walton. Witnesses at the scene pointed to Bouyer as the shooter, and police found the gun under one of Bouyer's pant legs.
In court, Bouyer apologized for his actions and expressed regret, mentioning that he had never been in such a situation before. The judge, Common Pleas Judge Guy Reece, sentenced Bouyer to 20 years in prison as part of a plea agreement recommended by both prosecution and defense attorneys. Several of Walton's family members, including his 9-year-old daughter, Amira Walton, spoke during the court proceedings, expressing their grief and the impact Walton's death had on their lives.
The case highlighted the tragic consequences of violence and the importance of conflict resolution. Bouyer's defense attorney mentioned that Bouyer left the military with health problems, including vocal-chord paralysis, which made finding a job difficult. Despite these challenges, Bouyer was held accountable for his actions, and Walton's family continues to remember him fondly.
