Heather Bogle, a 28-year-old woman from Sandusky County, Ohio, tragically died on April 9, 2015. She was last seen leaving her night shift job at the Whirlpool plant in Clyde, Ohio, around 6:15 am. When she didn't return home or pick up her young daughter from school, her family grew concerned and alerted the authorities. Heather's car was later found parked near the Somerton Apartments in Clyde, and her lifeless body was discovered in the trunk.
The autopsy report revealed that she had been subjected to extreme physical abuse and died from two gunshot wounds to her back.
The investigation into Heather's murder initially faced several challenges. Police initially focused on Keyona Bor, a resident of the apartment complex where Heather's car was found, but she was later cleared of any involvement. The case took a significant turn when Daniel Myers, a coworker at Whirlpool, was identified as a suspect. Myers had a history of violent behavior and had been accused of preying on vulnerable women. In June 2017, Myers was charged with Heather's murder, and in December 2019, he pleaded guilty to the crime.
The investigation revealed that Myers had attempted to cover up his crime by attending Heather's calling hours and donating to the family's GoFundMe account. Investigators were able to use Heather's Google email and GPS to track her phone to Myers' trailer, which was the last known location of her phone. Myers' DNA was found under Heather's fingernail, providing crucial evidence that led to his arrest.
The case also highlighted several investigative missteps, including the wrongful pursuit of three innocent suspects and the eventual arrest of the lead detective for tampering with evidence. Despite these challenges, justice was eventually served, and Myers was sentenced for his heinous crime.
