The investigation into their deaths led to the arrest of Jocquez Ross, a member of the organized drug gang Money Over
Everything . Ross was indicted on two counts of aggravated murder, along with additional charges including felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and having weapons under disability. He was arrested in early October during a raid focused on the gang's activities. The trial revealed that Ross was charged with engaging in corrupt activity, trafficking and possession of cocaine and heroin, and having weapons under disability.
The case against Ross was complicated by uncooperative witnesses, but the victims' family testified during the trial. Kelly Abubakar, the mother of Fannie Lewis, shared that her daughter had aspirations of becoming a nurse and was working in healthcare at the time of her death.
