On October 29, 2023, Lyric D. Todd, a 27-year-old resident of Elyria, Ohio, was fatally shot in an incident that also left another woman injured. The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. in the 200 block of Eighth Street when Elyria police responded to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered Todd and a 20-year-old woman, Chrishia Chester, inside a vehicle, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
