Jeanne M. Johnson, a 71-year-old Caucasian woman from Elyria, Ohio, passed away on February 22, 2018, at her home. She was born on December 17, 1946, and was a lifelong resident of Elyria. Jeanne worked as a secretary at Elyria Regional Medical Center for 22 years before retiring in 2008. She was also an active volunteer at the St. Mary Church soup kitchen and various activities at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Grafton.
The circumstances surrounding Jeanne's death were
determined to be an apparent murder-suicide. According to the Lorain County Sheriff's Office, Jeanne was shot by her husband, Lawrence Johnson, who then shot himself. The couple was found by their adult son just after 10:00 a.m. on the day of the incident in their home on Chestnut Ridge Road in Carlisle Township. Investigators believe there was no known motive behind the shootings, and there were no apparent relationship issues or turmoil in the household. Lawrence Johnson had been recovering from a recent surgery but had no other known medical issues.
The Lorain County Coroner's Office conducted an investigation to determine the final cause of death for both Jeanne and Lawrence Johnson. The case was treated as a murder-suicide, and no further arrests or suspects were identified. There were no ongoing litigations or investigations related to the incident beyond the initial determination of the cause of death.
Jeanne is survived by her sons, Robert and James Johnson, six grandchildren, her sister Linda Beug, her brother William Doebele, and two granddogs. A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Jeanne at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Grafton, followed by private burial at St. Mary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were suggested to be made to the St. Mary soup kitchen in Elyria. Jeanne's legacy lives on through her family, friends, and the community she served through her volunteer work.
