On February 12, 2016, 15-year-old Kaleb Xavier McKinley White, a male of African American ethnicity from Columbus, OH, tragically passed away at Grant Medical Center after being shot near Barnett Road and East Livingston Avenue. The incident occurred when a black Chevy Impala drove by and someone inside the vehicle opened fire, hitting Kaleb. He was with two other teens at the time, and both were also injured in the shooting.

Sotton was arrested the next day and charged with murder and felonious assault. Subsequently, four more teenagers were arrested and charged with the same crimes: 15-year-old Akilahn Blackwell, 17-year-old Anothony Montgomery, 17-year-old Christian Woods, and 18-year-old Tylor Dodson. However, murder charges were later dropped against Blackwell and Woods due to insufficient evidence of their involvement.
The investigation revealed that witnesses identified Sotton as the shooter, while Montgomery was also implicated as the shooter by another source. The motive behind the shooting has not been disclosed by the authorities.
