A 41-year-old man, Casey Long of Clinton Township, was fatally beaten in Detroit on December 30, 2011. His last known whereabouts, according to relatives, was the Oakland Mall in Troy where he had planned to meet with friends.
Long was discovered with critical injuries near a bar situated at the intersection of Conant and Nevada streets on the city's east side. He was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital, where he died shortly after his arrival.
The circumstances leading up to the fatal assault remain unclear.
In the wake of his death, the Detroit Police homicide bureau initiated an investigation. Law enforcement officials, along with Long's family and local pastors, held a press conference to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest. Crime Stoppers of Michigan announced a reward of up to $1,000 for tips that would result in the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for Long's death. However, there have been no subsequent public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in the case.
