Ronald Kenneth James Lewis, Sr., a 49-year-old African American man from Youngstown, Ohio, tragically passed away on March 24, 2017. Known affectionately as "Ron Ron," he was a beloved husband, father, and coach for the Youngstown Little Bulldogs Football team. His life was marked by his passion for fishing, bowling, and music, especially George Clinton, as well as his unwavering support for the Cleveland Browns.
Ronald's death was the result of a brutal home invasion. Gregory James, who was out on federal parole for gun offenses at the time, forced his way into Ronald's home on Atkinson Avenue and shot him as he slept next to his wife, Tracey. Tracey was also shot multiple times during the attack. The motive behind the murder was believed to be James' fear that Ronald could testify against him in another murder case.
The investigation led to Gregory James' arrest and subsequent trial. In May 2018, James was found guilty of aggravated murder, aggravated burglary, and witness intimidation, among other charges. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole plus 42 years. During the sentencing, Tracey Lewis bravely spoke out about the impact of the crime on her life, expressing the ongoing trauma and physical challenges she faced as a result of the attack.
