In the early afternoon of a Friday in Youngstown, Ohio, the sound of gunfire shattered the ordinary rhythm of the South Side. When the echoes faded, 24-year-old Terrance Simms Jr. lay dead in the parking lot of a barber shop on Canfield Road. The tragic event, which occurred on March 20, 2026, marked the city's first homicide in over four months.
Emergency medical technicians were called to the scene near the intersection of Canfield Road and Glenwood Avenue, where they pronounced the young man deceased. The Mahoning County Coroner's Office later officially confirmed the identity of Terrance Simms Jr. as the victim of the fatal shooting. An autopsy was subsequently scheduled to be performed by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office.
The Youngstown Police Department swiftly launched an investigation into the homicide. Arriving officers found a customer from the barber shop on the front porch, who directed them to Simms's body. Investigators identified and questioned several "involved persons" who were inside the barber shop at the time of the shooting. In connection with the incident, law enforcement is seeking information regarding a light gray Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack. As of now, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects, and no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation.
