They encountered Martwain Dill in a pickup truck and contacted Gary Crockett, who joined them with an assault rifle and a handgun. They later spotted Dill again and ambushed him, resulting in Dill's death from multiple gunshot wounds.
Gary Crockett, along with Eric Lewis, was indicted on charges of aggravated murder with a firearm specification. The trial revealed that Crockett and Lewis opened fire on Dill while he was seated in his truck. Crockett was found guilty of aggravated murder and sentenced to life imprisonment with parole eligibility after 30 years, plus an additional three years for the firearm specification.
