Kane Joseph Wiesensee, an 18-year-old male from Youngstown, OH, tragically passed away on February 13, 2020, in Boardman, OH. Kane was born on August 1, 2001, and was a senior at Boardman High School. He was known for his love of loud music, fast cars, hunting, riding his dirt bike, four-wheeling, and the color red. Kane participated in various sports throughout his school career, including T-ball, wrestling, basketball, and football.
The circumstances surrounding Kane's death were
initially unclear, but it was later revealed that he was shot in the chest while at a friend's house. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. when Kane and his friend were walking down the street and were shot at by someone in a black car. Kane was taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Following the incident, 19-year-old Emmanuel Boyd, who lived at the house where Kane was shot, was arrested and charged with murder. Boyd was taken into custody and held on a $250,000 bond. Investigators initially believed that Boyd and Kane were shot at by someone in a passing car, but further investigation revealed that Boyd was playing with a gun when it accidentally discharged, hitting Kane.
In May 2020, a Mahoning County grand jury indicted Boyd on several charges, including involuntary manslaughter with a firearm specification, burglary, being a felon in possession of a firearm, tampering with evidence, grand theft of a firearm, receiving stolen property, and falsification. Boyd pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and burglary, admitting that the shooting was accidental. In September 2023, Boyd was sentenced to 14 to 18 years in prison for the accidental shooting death of his best friend.
