Trey Shepard, a 29-year-old male from Hamilton, OH, tragically died on April 8, 2017, from a gunshot wound. Shepard was found shot on Nelson Street in St. Clair Township and was later flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The incident occurred when an intruder entered an upper floor apartment of the Nelson Street residence and engaged in an exchange of gunfire with Shepard. During this altercation, Shepard was shot and fatally wounded.
A woman living in the apartment downstairs reported hearing banging on doors and cries for help from the upstairs apartment.
Following the incident, three individuals were arrested and charged in connection with Shepard's death. Keith D. Harris Jr., 27, and Diamond Reid, 18, were taken into custody and faced multiple charges, including murder, aggravated robbery, and felonious assault. Another suspect, William D. Harris, 26, was arrested in California and extradited to Ohio to stand trial for his involvement in the shooting.
Keith Harris eventually pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison. Diamond Reid and William Harris faced ongoing legal proceedings for their roles in the crime.
