Eric Adell Givens II, a 29-year-old African American man from Hamilton, OH, tragically died on July 5, 2015. He was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head between two houses in the 100 block of Walnut Street. The Butler County Coroner’s Office ruled his death a homicide.
On the night of his death, Hamilton police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire in the area.
Two other men, Carlos Cortez Baker and Michael Anthony Gilmore, were also shot but survived with non-life-threatening injuries. Police seized a black assault rifle at the scene.
The investigation revealed that Baker and Gilmore were walking near 139 Walnut Street when they were shot at by unknown assailants. The police chief emphasized that the shootings were targeted acts of violence in the 2nd Ward, disproportionately affecting young African American men in the community.
Despite the police's efforts, the case remains unsolved, and no arrests have been made. The community continues to seek justice for Eric Adell Givens II and other victims of similar incidents.
