He was shot and killed while trying to sell a quarter pound of marijuana. The incident occurred on Clinton Avenue in Elyria, and Cody was pronounced dead at UH Elyria Medical Center.

Smith, 18, of Oberlin, and Qwanda Woodson, 17, of Oberlin, were each sentenced to eight years in prison for their involvement. Jenna Turner, 20, of Middleburg Heights, received a six-month sentence in the Lorain County Jail. Jeffrey Miraldi, 21, of Elyria, faced charges of involuntary manslaughter, tampering with evidence, and trafficking in marijuana.
