Sebastian M. Watkins, a 34-year-old man from Columbus, Ohio, tragically lost his life on June 3, 2019. During the altercation, Alexis Byrd, 38, took out a gun and shot Watkins multiple times. Responding officers found Watkins on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The incident led to the arrest of Alexis Byrd, who was
charged with murder. However, the case took a turn when Byrd accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter and illegal possession of a firearm. In October 2023, Byrd was sentenced to an indefinite prison term of 17 to 22 years.
