On June 27, 2019, 37-year-old Jerome Young was tragically shot and killed in Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. The incident occurred around 5 a.m. on Back Street, where Young was walking with a woman. Surveillance footage from the area captured the moment several shots were fired, and Young fell to the ground. He was quickly rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The investigation into Young's death led to the arrest of
39-year-old Lakevin Brownridge. Brownridge was charged with murder and taken into custody by Cincinnati police on July 23, 2019. The arrest was made based on evidence from the surveillance footage and other investigative work by homicide detectives and the Fugitive Apprehension Squad. Brownridge's bond was set at $2 million during his court appearance, and he faced a grand jury on August 2, 2019.
Despite the arrest, police have not disclosed a clear motive for the murder. Young's family, devastated by the loss, expressed hope that someone would come forward with information to help bring justice for Jerome. The Grant Park Block Watch, which had installed cameras in the area to combat crime, played a crucial role in providing the footage that led to Brownridge's arrest.
