Joseph Edward Fisher, a 27-year-old man from Columbus, Ohio, tragically passed away on January 4, 2020. He was known for his gentle, kind, and caring nature, and was deeply loved by his friends and family. Joe was a parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Parish in Grove City, Ohio, and was confirmed into the Catholic faith in 2019. He was especially passionate about sports, particularly the Blue Jackets, Fighting Irish, and Buckeyes.
Joe's death was the result of a fatal shooting outside TK's Sports Bar on the South Side of Columbus. The incident occurred early in the morning, and when police arrived, they found Joe suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center shortly after. Witnesses identified Troy D. Capers II, 36, as the gunman. Capers was involved in a physical altercation with another patron in the parking lot before leaving and returning to fire the shot that killed Joe. Capers fled the scene in a maroon Cadillac Escalade, which was later found in front of his house.
Capers was charged with murder in connection with Joe's death, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Despite the ongoing investigation and efforts to locate him, Capers remained at large.
Joe's family and friends continue to remember him fondly and miss his presence in their lives. Contributions in his memory were suggested to be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Parish or Columbus Humane.
