On July 2, 2020, Delano Royster, a 26-year-old man from Columbus, OH, was found fatally shot in the 1900 block of South Champion Avenue. He was transported to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center but was pronounced dead at 3:45 p.m. The incident occurred during a fight inside a home, where Trevon Elder, 25, allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot Royster.
Another individual, Trevon Marteina, 28, was also present and fled the scene with significant injuries but survived.
Following the shooting, Trevon Elder was arrested and charged with murder. He was taken to Ohio State East Hospital with gunshot wounds and later charged with Royster's death. The case was investigated by Columbus police homicide detectives, and Elder was identified as the primary suspect. This incident marked the 60th homicide in Columbus for the year 2020.
The investigation continued as authorities sought additional information from the public. Anyone with information was encouraged to contact the Columbus Police Homicide Unit or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers. The case remains a significant part of the city's efforts to address and reduce violent crime.
