Dwayne E. Nabors, a 48-year-old African American man from Mansfield, Ohio, tragically lost his life on November 26, 2020. Nabors was the owner of Platinum Status Customs, a business specializing in automobile detailing and car sales. He was well-regarded in his community and left behind a large family, including his daughters, Carlene Jackson, Dalana Nabors, and BrenAisha Windham, as well as his partner's children and numerous grandchildren.
On Thanksgiving morning, Nabors was fatally
shot at the Motel 6 in Mansfield. The incident occurred around 1:39 a.m., and Nabors was pronounced dead about 90 minutes later. A female victim, Shaylee K. Wade, was also shot multiple times but survived and underwent surgery at a local hospital. The suspect in the shooting, Earl C. Jefferson II, a 43-year-old man from Mansfield, surrendered to authorities approximately 13 hours after the attack.
The Mansfield Police Department determined that the shooting was domestic-related. Jefferson allegedly confronted Nabors and Wade at the motel and shot them multiple times. Nabors was struck in the face, back of the head, and hip, while Wade was shot five times. Jefferson fled the scene on foot but later turned himself in to the police. He was charged with murder and the case was sent to a grand jury.
The investigation into Nabors' death revealed that Jefferson had slashed the tires of both Nabors' and Wade's vehicles before the shooting. Surveillance footage from the motel showed Jefferson arriving at the scene and standing outside the victims' room for about 20 minutes before the attack. Despite the tragic circumstances, Nabors' family and friends continue to honor his memory and seek justice for his untimely death.
