On January 17, 2021, 17-year-old JaDarian Glass was tragically shot and killed outside his home in Dayton, Ohio. According to his family, JaDarian was standing on his front porch when he was shot twice in the head. His mother, Joya Brown, recounted hearing two shots and finding parts of her son's brain in her hands, a harrowing memory that has stayed with her.
Dayton police quickly launched an investigation into JaDarian's death.
On January 27, 2021, they arrested a 24-year-old man named Shaquonne Carlell McCurty in connection with the murder. McCurty was found at a location on Germantown Pike and was taken into custody on a murder charge. The investigation revealed that McCurty and JaDarian had been involved in an ongoing dispute for several months prior to the shooting.
The Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office later indicted McCurty on two counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault with a deadly weapon, one count of felonious assault causing serious physical harm, and two counts of having weapons while under disability. The charges included firearm specifications due to McCurty's prior convictions for offenses of violence. McCurty was held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $1 million bond and was scheduled to be arraigned on February 9, 2021.
JaDarian's family has been vocal about their grief and the impact of his loss on their lives. They described JaDarian as a bright and beloved teenager with big dreams and a talent for making people laugh with his dance moves. His mother emphasized that his death was not just a personal tragedy but also a symbol of the larger issue of violence in their community.
The case against McCurty moved forward with the community's assistance and the determination of law enforcement to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. The family continues to seek justice for JaDarian and hopes that his memory will inspire positive change in their community.
